Benefit of using data logger
In this course I also learnt about the data logger. Actually, data logger is any device that use to store data. Data logging is commonly used in scientific experiments and in monitoring systems where there is the need to collect information faster than a human can possibly collect the information and in cases where accuracy is essential. Examples of the types of information a data logging system can collect include temperatures, sound frequencies, vibrations, times, light intensities, electrical currents, pressure and changes in states of matter. In this lesson we need to design one experiment that use this data logger, our group had chose Boyle’s Law principle that involve the pressure and volume of object. We use the pressure sensor to detect the pressure of object when different volume was manipulated. The advantages of using this data logger are
  • Measurements are always taken at the right time. Unlike a human the computer will not forget to take a reading or take a reading too late or too early.
  • Mistakes are not made in reading the results. Humans can make errors. For example it is quite easy to misread the temperature using the scale on a thermometer.
  • Data logging devices can be sent to places that humans cannot easily get to. For example to the planet Mars, into the bottom of a volcano, or onto a roof of a tall building to get to a weather station.
  • Graphs and tables of results can be produced automatically by the data logging software.
But there are also disadvantages when we use the data logger. The disadvantages is purchasing the equipment. As we know, the price of the component that use in data logger is too expensive. Not all of us are affordable. In school we are actually can apply and use this data logger during the lab session. Student will be more interest to do the experiment if we use the data logger. Any error can be decreases when we use the data logger
